Before the Guests Arrive: 3 Quick Insurance Checks

The holidays are a time for family, friends, travel, and a little extra activity around the house. While insurance probably isn’t at the top of your holiday to-do list, a few simple reminders can help keep an unexpected mishap from becoming part of your holiday memories.

Hosting family or friends? More people in the house can mean more opportunities for slips, trips, and accidents. Make sure walkways are clear, outdoor areas are well lit and decorations aren’t creating a hazard. Your homeowner’s policy may provide liability coverage, but it’s always a good idea to understand what your policy includes.

Giving or receiving something special? Jewelry, electronics, collectibles, and other high-value gifts may have coverage limitations under a standard homeowner’s policy. If Santa brings something particularly valuable, give your insurance advisor a call to make sure it’s properly covered.

Heading out of town? Before leaving for the holidays, take a few minutes to secure your home. Lock doors and windows, turn off unnecessary appliances, and consider having someone check on your home while you’re away. If you’re leaving for an extended period, it’s also worth understanding any requirements your policy may have for an unoccupied home.

And don’t forget the Florida sunshine! Holiday gatherings often extend outdoors here in Venice. Pools, fire pits, grills and outdoor entertaining can all add to the fun—and the potential for accidents.

The holidays should be about making memories, not worrying about “what ifs.” A little preparation now can help you enjoy the season with greater peace of mind.

From our family to yours, we wish you a safe, happy, and joyful holiday season!
